The McLaren P1 at the Nürburgring (with video)

Since we're planning to talk about the McLaren P1 in an upcoming CarStuff podcast, I thought I'd give you a chance to have a closer look at exactly what we're talking about. The car is the amazing McLaren P1 -- a limited production, plug-in hybrid, supercar that's built by British manufacturer McLaren Automotive. And while we have plenty of good things to say about the McLaren P1 in our podcast, Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson gets to takes it one-step further as he tells you all about it from behind the wheel:

So after watching that, I'm sure you get the point -- it's fast. Really fast. But you've got to be quick when you're competing in a world where your direct competition is the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari's LaFerrari. How quick? Well, McLaren recently indicated that the P1 made it around the Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes (possibly a lot less); but they're playing it cool by not releasing the official one-lap time until after Ferrari announces its LaFerrari numbers. Meanwhile, the Porsche 918 Spyder sits alone near the top of the Nürburgring Top 100 Lap Records with a one-lap time of just 6 minutes and 57 seconds -- and as of early March 2014, that's the third fastest time ever.

Take a look at the McLaren P1 attacking the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in this video and let us know if you think it'll knock the Porsche 918 Spyder off the top of the list:
